I am looking at RAID controllers for servers. I am looking at two possible RAID controllers, both are Dell hard drive controllers.
(1) PERC 6/i SAS RAID controller 2x4 Connectors, Internal, 256MB Cache.
(2) PERC H700 Integrated RAID controller, 512MB Cache
Dell PowerEdge RAID Controller (PERC) | Dell

(1) The 6/i is PCIe 1.0 and with a SAS 1.0, allowing up to a 3 GB/s throughput.
(2) The H700 is PCIe 2.0 with a SAS 2.0, allowing a 6 GB/s throughput.

My hard drives are already 6GB/s, so the 6/i is the limiter as hard drives are concerned. Clearly, the H700 has better performance. The question that I have is will I be able to reap these benefits or will there be no change in performance in my case?

The only writes to disc will be from incoming network data. Our fastest network cards (fiber and copper cards) are 2.5 GB/s unidirectional. This is less than the throughput of both hard drive controllers. In this case, would I NOT see any difference between the two RAID controllers? In which case would it be in my best interest to go with the 6/i?

NOTE: I know that I kind of answered my own question, I was hoping I could get your help to ensure I am not missing anything. Thanks!!!
