OK so I am considering building my system for college, and here's my question.

If I buy a beefed up processor and a nice motherboard, can I use hardware from my old system like the 80 GB HDD or my PC2700 RAM with it? What kind of compatability issues are there to consider (just the major ones) when using hardware from old systems and putting them into new ones?

And also, if I can transfer the harddrive, will I have to reinstall my OS or can I just update the BIOS and everything will run, in theory, smoothly?

So basically, I suppose I am asking if I can just change the mobo and the processor?

Thanks

yes u can use old parts , but have to ewatch out for Mobo's memory qualified list, weather they'll support your memory's manufacturer.

and definately u have to fresh install windows, otherwise too many problems sometime arise due to drivers conflict.

Memory is Kingston, just two sticks of 256, so I imagine thats a pretty universally supported brand?
