sd card problem on pc

hi guys i have a gateway desktop and my sd card slot does not work, when i put in my card the lil light turns green but does nothing, what might be wrong and how can i fix this problem

Is it turned off in Device Manager?

Is it a new card?, did you format it beforehand?

Has it ever work on this PC?

You might have a letter conflict. Go into Device Manager, and give it a new letter.

im running windows 7 and yes it had worked before, same as my usb ports some had stopped working also

would it have to do with something with my drivers ? may be update them ?

if thats an option where can i get the newer version

Did you check the PC Manufacturer's website for updated drivers?

yea but there are so many selections and im not sure what one i need to download so my sd card will work and my usb

That'd be Disk Management, not Device Manager. Just throwing that out there .
