Windows 7 sound problems

I'm working on my sisters Acer Eee netbook. The audio device keeps getting taken over by other applications. The message that I get is: The device is being used by another application. If you continue, that application may stop working. Do you want to continue?

For some reason, it keeps doing this even though nothing is checked in the Exclusive Mode in the Advanced tab. It has a Realtek High Definition Audio with 16 to 24 bit sound options.

I believe it set to the Windows manager. Should I change it to the realtek?
