When i put this computer together, i was short on cash and bough the Asrock core 2 dual board because i had a lot upgrading potential (ddr and ddr2 capable, agp and pcie, a lot of processor support.) I was using an old geforce 6600 pcie express card in it and it finally fried. I have been shopping around for a card that will be equal to it or perhaps a little faster, but i am having trouble finding many PCIE x4 cards. My question is this: Should I buy a PCIE x1 card, PCIE x16, or should i just get a good AGP 8x? and what are the pros or cons of choosing each one?

If you have the room for a PCI-E x16 card, get it. It's the fastest bus out right now, and you have a larger quantity of cards to choose from, ranging from $20-$800. Most AGP cards that are even decent are overpriced compared to their PCI-E counterpart.

I agree with 95black... PCI-e x16 is the best thing to do at this
point. However, depending on your computer uses, you may
want different video cards.

For everyday use such as internet and maybe spreadsheets or
non-HD video or something you may not need anything too
powerful, but I would get the cheap Nvidia GeForce 8400 on
Newegg. Or for ATI maybe Radeon HD 2400.

For mediocre gaming I would recommend at least an Nvidia
GeForce 9500. Maybe the GeForce 9600. Or with ATI maybe
Radeon HD 3450 or better.

As for advanced gaming... You are probably going to want
a GeForce 9800 or a Radeon HD 4670 or better, but make
sure they are 128-bit or 256-bit.

That GeForce 6600 would have barely done any gaming.
In fact, most games nowadays require the GeForce 6800
as a minimum. And that would run the game at a low res
on low to medium settings.

By the way, there is an eVGA GeForce 9500 1 GB on newegg
right now for like $60 USD. And it's 128-bit. I bought
two of them for my friend to use. One for his computer, one
for his parents.

I would say the 9800 is in the moderate category, not advanced. Your moderate cards are low end really.

What is your budget dude?

Yeah, you're givin' some bad information here. I hate to say it, but it's true. You say for mediocre gaming, a 9500GT would suffice, or a 9600GT/GSO. That 9600 is by far faster than the 9500, at anything and everything.

You say for advanced gaming a 4670 would be the lowest to go. That 4670 is SLOWER than the 9600 you suggested for mediocre gaming. The 9800GT isn't that much faster than a 9600.
