My turn to ask a question,

Recently I purchased an OPTI-USB 2.0 3.5" INTERNAL MULTI-IN-1 CARD READER/WRITER model: UCR54IN1B. I have a problem to connect the OPTI-USB drive to the ASUS motherboard model ASUS P4SP-MX (with last BIOS updates applied) . I am using the on board USB connector named USB_56 on the motherboard to connect to OPTI-USB drive. After I connect the USB drive to the motherboard the secondary IDE channel is not available. I disconnected the DVD drive from the secondary IDE channel, but this not resolve the problem.

I tested the OPTI-USB drive with other motherboard (Intel S3000AH) and it works perfect.

The used connector is 9 pins (5+4)

The USB connector is named: USB_56 in the ASUS motherboard and looks like:

Could you please advise me how to resolve my problem?

Thank you.

Yogalb.

As many problems I have dealt with usb drives or usb components this one has me completely confused.......

Have you tried calling asus about this and see if they know something ?
Also I might be able to point you in the right direction: "It might be a problem with latest bios update".
Try reverting back to a stable bios and see if the problem still persists,

I think you have a letter problem.

Go into Computer Management, go to the Disk Management, It should show the drive, right click on the disk and change the letter to something else.
