I'm on the fence about replacing my Tivi HD with a custom windows media center PC. I think the main benefit I'm interested in is being able to use it with my XBox 360 (as a media extender). No way I'm paying for another Tivo AND monthly service agreement just to be able to enable multi-room viewing.

What kind of prices am I looking at here? I'm looking for roughly the same storage as my Tivo, since I don't think I've ever run out of space. I'd also like to be able to record 2 things at once and still watch something else at the same time. Power efficiency is also a must. Oh, and everything must be in HD deliciousness.
Would I be better off with something pre-built and upgrading it or starting from scratch? I'm comfortable doing both.
