How do you change the order in which drive letters are assigned in Windows XP. I can do it in earlier versions of Windows using config.sys, but apparently not in XP?????
im not sure about changing the order in which they are assigned. However, i know that you can change a drive letter in computer management's disk management componet.
The order depends on your partitions. Primary partitions get a driveletter first, starting at disk one. Then the logical partitions get a driveletter and then CD-ROM devices.
If u have 2 primary partitions and 2 logical the primary partitions will get C: and D: and the logical partitions get E: and F:
U can change the driveletters with Partition Magic if you are using Win98.
You can change C, but in some versions of Windows, you MUST HAVE a C drive. You can't change your drives to be ABD, instead of ABC. If you change your C drive to another letter, you must change something else to C. The changes will most likely screw a lot of your apps up, though, and Windows may fail to boot.
