Simple question...

Sorry to ask this, but I'm a complete novice at networking: how do I find out my own ip address?

My friend and I want to play jDoom via LAN and I need this information.

Go to a DOS prompt and type "ipconfig".

OK, did that, and now I've got 3 addresses; an ethernet adapter (presumably my onboard network adapter) and two ppp adapters.

Allright, I need to use the ethernet adapter's address for LAN, but what does PPP stand for?

An example would be when you dial up to an ISP (AOL for example) and recevieve an IP address from them in order to communicate online.
