What's a CPU's maximum lifetime? I am talking about an average non-overclocked CPU, Athlon 2200+ for example.

Any ideas?

isn't it like 10 years? under the right conditions of course.. I've heard that chips can last that long.. keeping the dust out, proper cooling, no voltage changes, etc...

shit, this means my chip will die in one or two years. Its from 1997 or 1996 and its OC'ed...or do older/slower chips last longer?

iv'e got a cpu from 1990 (66mhz lol!) and it still works ( installed w/ win 95 lol!). i suppose yours should last longer, mabey another 3-4 years or even more.

How long's a piece of string?
There is noway of knowing how long a cpu wil last, there's too many considerations to take into account.

My ZX Spectrum still works and i bought it it 1987!

the older chips handled heat a little better. some didn't even require a fan. they handle less heat because they are slower

there are a lot of things to consider for a chips lifespan though
