HP Dv6707 uber complicated...I think?

I have an HPdv6707 that came preinstalled with windows Vista Premium as the OS.
Well long story short,...I recently installed Ubuntu to dual boot with it. It seemingly worked alright with it. Anyhow,...as of recently my computer will NOT come on. I bought the device back in 2008 in February from Office Depot.
First off I press the power button to turn the laptop on.
it sounds like it wants to turn on but doesn't and it just whirs the fan,clicks a couple of times and then it turns immediately off.
I think,...its possibly a battery issue,
so I take the battery out and attempt to turn the laptop on via straight through the cord.
No avail. same pattern as before
The next thing I do (which my roommate suggests) is taking out the hard drive and try booting my Ubuntu disk from the CD disk drive

I will admit that the screws next to the hard drive are not there(why I don't know)
The Hard drive doesn't even sounds like it is spinning.
So what now?

Sounds like a good idea, what happened when you did that?
