I'm sorry, not familiar with 3D mark cpu scores much. How does it compare to say an i7 920?

The Phenom II X6 shown here performs on par with the i7 920/930/940 in 3dMark06's CPU score.

Though it performs about 1500 points lower than a stock clocked i7 920 in 3dMark Vantage's CPU score.

(stock i7 920's score around 16000 vs this Phenom II X6's 14500~)

Overall, it looks like AMD is going to win this fight.

Because these are results for the Phenom II X6 1055T...
Which is supposed to retail for $200~

Also, in all of these results it looks like it's downclocked? To 800Mhz?

AMD might blow everyone away with Thuban... Including Intel.

Its just idle so it lowers the clocks down.
Great chip for the price.

Overall, it looks like these processors are going to fit right where I thought they were...
Above the i5 - 750, but below the i7 920...
Though... They aren't behind the i7 920 by much...
This really does look like AMD's answer to the Core i7 series.

You have to remember that unless the game can use all the cores effectively you won't see all that much of an improvement from 4 cores to 6.

You have to remember that decent multiple core processors have been released since 2005-2006...

Gaming consoles now have multiple core processors...

Pretty sure games from here on out are probably going to make at least moderate use of multiple cores.

Especially games that are ports from a multiple core console.
