and if i do wait til summer.

till i get the 5770 or better this summer.

looking to spend no more than 40-50.

would like to mingle with some over clocking also. would be my first attempt.
thanks for the help btw

If I were you, I'd purchase a graphics card upgrade now.
(5770 or 5750)

Then I'd think about getting a cheap core 2 duo later as your motherboard is socket 775 and supports these.

Supports the following processors:

* Core 2 Duo E6x00
* Core 2 Duo E4x00

(I'd select the E4400 and overclock the brakes off of it.)

Or... If you make enough money this summer, move over to AM3 with a Phenom II X2 (or Athlon II X2,X3,X4, the performance really doesn't differ much except in gaming where the Phenoms have a slight edge), a decent AM3 motherboard, and a 2Gb stick of DDR3.

Selling your old parts could help you raise some money for the new parts.

But overall, for now I suggest doing the graphics upgrade, then worrying about CPU etc... later.
You might not even need to upgrade your CPU, I bet with a graphics upgrade you could probably max WoW's detail settings AND get good FPS.

AH HA!

gonna try

Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 1 Revision 2 at Xoxide!

on my x700 till i build the bank account!

4650, 4670 (If you get one the first two, make sure it has GDDR3 RAM), 4850, 4770, 5770 512Mb version, 9800 GT, 9600 GSO, 5570

Whichever one of those you're more willing to spend the money on.
(aka, whichever is cheaper)
With those cards though, price is somewhat indicative of overall performance/power

If I were you, I'd probably look for a cheap GDDR3 4670 with 512Mb of RAM or I'd nab a 512Mb 5770

Just a update!

I Went with the Zalman VF700 led for my X700 pciE

As i hoped it fit perfect on my X700. Cooling it from 69C idle with original fan not working to 32C idle with the VF700

install was easy. great product
Now can save $$ for my AM3 build.
