Hey guys sorry if this is the wrong place to post this im new here so don't kill me

I'm getting my dads old computer because hes upgrading to new one for video production.

I play a lot of games on computers so i wanted to see if i can upgrade a few things.

-First i want to get an ATI Radeon HD 5870
-upgrade from windows 7 32-bit Too Windows 7 64-bit (reason being for more ram) want to run about 4 or 6gb of ram. Right now im only running 3.25gb

But theres a catch my dad suposbile talk to a "professional" (dont know in what field) and he said that because of my computers architecture i couldn't update to windows 64bit or get a better graphics card. I think the dude don't know **** so im posting here !

That's a pretty powerful computer, congratulations.

I don't see how you can't upgrade to win7 64bit...
The 5870 is a very powerful card, excellent choice. Make sure you have a nice monitor to go with it; Dell makes nice monitors, so i hope you're getting one of those as well. You'd need high resolution to do the 5870 justice. I see that the powersupply included is 980watts? Confirm this by opening the case and reading the information on the powersupply itself. You'll need at least 500watts to run the 5870, so if you have 980watts that'll be more than enough. 4GB of memory is also enough for gaming.

Only downside to this is that Dell probably made it so that you're not able to overclock.

Good Luck.

Yea its by dell :( but ill check out the powersupply this weekend.

And i got a nice 32inch lcd tv to go with it :)

Thanks !

It was either the Ati or gtx 295, but after very few research i found out that the ati was much stronger/faster

Yep, that 'professional' doesn't know what he's talking about :p
Upgrading to 7 x64 and a 5870 will work fine.

edit: and yeah, the 5870 is DEF the right way to go over a GTX 295. Even before the release of the 5xxx series, the 295's were overpriced and not worth it for the price you paid.
