What RAM should I get?

The 2nd set I linked to has a slight advantage with it's timings 7-7-7-24-1T and they have a lower voltage requirement, 1.6 volts. Where as the 1st set has timings of 7-8-7-24-2T and a higher voltage requirement, 1.65 volts.

How much of a difference will that make? If its nothing more then a slight gain them I'll get the first set you linked too.

I would go with the 1st set. With a little tweaking you might be able to run them faster than advertised anyways

I'm confused about timings, what is better higher or lower?

Lower timings and higher MHz

Generalization

Timings deal with how fast the memory responds to commands so faster is lower. 7ms is faster than 8ms.

The MHz rating deals more with the bus speed and it's ability to communicate with other devices so faster is higher. 1600 MHz is faster than 1333 MHz.

While the i5 750 with the P55 Chipset is different than the i7 920 with the X58 Chipset, they are quite simular. Even if you don't overclock there is some good info in this thread to increase your knowledge
