My laptop CPU is heating up to 80c+

I checked with both Real Temp and Coretemp

I used both because I didn't trust Coretemp...
It was saying my CPU's bus speed was 998
(Which would put my little Core Duo running at 11-12Ghz)
Needless to say I immediately ran CPU-Z thinking
"zomg maybe world record due to freak accident?"
but was disappointed :p

So I ran Real temp and yep... My temps are coming back 80c+ on both.

What should I do?
I'm thinking of popping her open and reapplying some thermal paste/grease to the CPU.
Possibly buying a new laptop fan.
Can you guys recommend me a laptop fan? Or show me where I can buy one?
I think it's between 15mm and 40mm not sure exactly, I gotta measure it.

The laptop is a Thinkpad T60 with a T2500 CPU.
I've been having problems lately and I think they are heat related.
Anyone have any helpful input?

Yeah I know about those temps, had them a lot lately...even as far as 95*C I think.

Kind of scared to open it though, I'll ask my sis if it still has warranty, if not I'll give it a try and see.

I don't have any thermal paste lying around and I have decided to use toothpaste as a temporary solution.

I'll apply the toothpaste tomorrow or Friday probably, I'll check back and report my temps then.

If it works for you, guess I'll give it a try also...kinda discouraged to open the laptop though. Never really done those stuff :(.

I've opened quite a few laptops in my day.
It's not really a big deal.
The hardest part is remembering where all the screws go.
That's why it's nice to have service manuals on hand, or to have a piece of paper and a pencil to map out the different screws and where they go so you remember when you put it back together.

Most laptops I have taken apart have had more than 50 screws.
I would go as far to say there are probably some laptops that have 100+ screws in them.

That's the only real headache about laptop repair to me...
These darned screws...

one of my friends has an alienware m17 and it has always had 70-80 degrees temps...but it's alot more powerful with a intel core 2 t9400(2.53ghz) and a ati mobility radeon 3870, so clean it out!!
