So my friend needed help building a computer and his budget is $500 , Would and i5 or athlon x4 be better for gaming and encoding. He doesn't need a optic, hdd, monitor, or os. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Yes sorry about that I posted this kinda quickly. I need all the things that Trotter mentioned. Games that he would be playing HoN, WoW, Borderlands. He plays on a 17 inch monitor, I dont know the res.

Phenom II's are better than the Athlon's for gaming performance.
But the Athlon's are cheaper.
