A 4650?
This shouldn't have 'Gaming Rig' in the thread title.

Rule of thumb for gaming PC's.
#1 Spend more money on the GPU than you do on the CPU, otherwise it's not a gaming computer.

??

so i guess if i get an i7 975 ee with an hd 5970 it must not be a gaming pc...

I'll try and post pics later

I'll be upgrading vid card later. I'm only really playing Star Trek Online with it right now. The only big game I want to play next is Starcraft 2. When recommended specs are released for that, I'll see what's available then. :p

So if he doesn't spend over $165 on a GPU it's not considered a gaming PC? Silly post.

If you get an i7 975 period.
It's a server.
I don't care what you say you do with it.
It's a Xeon.
You bought a server.
Congratz.

It's just a rule of thumb I go by.
It works out in most cases.
Mid-low range
Which is where many enthusiast computers are being purchased these days.
Between $400 and $1200

Usually in those price brackets, spending more on the GPU than the CPU is the smarter thing to do for gaming performance gains.

Just to let you know the i7 975 is not a Xeon. It is the top of the line extreme edition Bloomfield.
Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-975 Extreme Edition Bloomfield 3.33GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

Unlocked muti and totally overkill unless you go Ln2 but not a Xeon.

You have quite a set of rules for yourself there orihS Shiro....however I dont think too many people are going to go by "Your" rules

well, the silly rule he made..
i agree for going for more investment on GPU would be a smarter choice.
but dont just make your silly rule here..
see, a gaming PC so called a gaming rig if it really serves ones gaming need..
as for InsaneJester17, he just having his RIG for star trek online and Starcraft 2 which i think it was almost a good gaming platform for him..
right guys??
