Hello all. I am trying to set up a remote desktop as follows:

I have an older computer running XP and a newer laptop running vista.

I would like to be able to remote desktop into the older XP computer from my laptop or anywhere else.

I have tried following these instructions:
Set Up Remote Desktop Web Connection with Windows XP
However, at the end of the process I can get my laptop to connect.

Can someone help me.

Thank you.

Is you computer behind a router? If so did you set up port forward?

Have you tried connecting to it when on the same network by doing a rdc to its internal address? ie 192.168.0.100 as a test before you try outside your network.

I am trying to figure out what my internal address is for the computer and trying to connect via that... but I did not set up port forwarding... not sure how to do that.

open a command prompt and type ipconfig
this will give you the internal ip of the computer.

no need for port forward when inside the home network.

what router do you have?

A US robotics... not sure about the exact model. I will look into it and get back to you tomorrow.

Thanks for you help so far.
