Hey..this is my first time overclocking
i heard i can get i7 920 to 4ghz stable
any recommendations on what hardware to buy?
GPU im planning to get is Evga GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked
i'll prob wont need it but if i do i'll get another one down the road
is the GA-EX58 Extreme good to get?
not sure what kind of cooling system i will need.
advice appreciated
a list of all the stuff i need would be great

$1500 give or take
if i need liquid cooling i might be able to spend more money
i read a tutorial from gigabyte for a i7 920 @4ghz on one of their ex58 extreme
not sure if i should follow that or if i can get other expert advice

People have gotten the i7 920 clocked to 4Ghz on air cooling. Just get a good heatsink like the Thermalright True 120 and take the overclocking slow .. in increments. Your safest bet would be liquid but it shouldn't be necessary if you have the proper cooling in your case & good heatsink.

Bah, That sucks. Would the "True" be the best i7 hsf? Or is there other better options?

Sorry for taking your thread. Just didn't want to start a new one for no reason.

;)

People have managed to accomplish the overclocking of an i7 to 4GHz on air cooling - I am a newbie to overclocking too (been doing it 3 months, that is a newbie - isn't it?) but use liquid cooling on most 'tasks' I take out.

Comes down to preference I suppose - and budgets :/.
