New Performance Build

Hi, I had another thread I recently posted with a different build but was more about upgrade-ability and so I just threw that out the window and came up with something different for around the same price. I simply now just don't want to upgrade my CPU for at least 2-3 years or video card. I plan to try OCing the i5 to 3.5-3.8ghz if that is safe once I read up more about overclocking the i5. This PC is used mostly for GAMING. What do you think?

Total with shipping and after rebates, it adds up to just about $950.00. How is this setup from a cost/value basis? Also, I would like to point out the PSU probably wont be good for the current case listed as the case has the PSU on the bottom. The case looks great with its huge fans perfect for airflow and cooling if I OC.

Any comments on these new changes and build as a whole? Again, I plan to overclock to 3.5 to 3.8ghz.

I don't usually say high-performance PSUs (power supplies) is a bad thing, but unless you're going to be having three or four 5770s in Crossfire, then it's rather over the top. You could power that system, fully OCd, with just a 450W; but go with the 650W in case you do end up adding more powerful components in future.

Thanks! I originally intended to buy the 4850x2 so it required at least a 650w but I decided best not to since x2 video cards generally have firmware issues alot. I will go back to my 650w if you think that would be enough to OC my cpu/ram/videocard.

Video card... which brings me to a recent question that I am not sure about. I am stumbling between whether or not I want to get the 5770 or the 4890 and overclock it. DX11 is only in the 5000 series but we all know what happened with DX10 and even if DX11 actually is successful, it would be at least a year or two before its mainstream and used in games right? I could get better performance with a 4890 than a 5770 by far but is DX11 really worth it to get a slower card since I cant afford a 5850?

Sorry for the double reply...

I have decided to go with the 5770 even though its only a 128bit. It wont be a really fast card, but seems to have a pretty good performance/cost ratio and I hope will keep me in the high settings in games for a year or two maybe.

Since I will be overclocking, will the heatsink I listed be sufficient enough to get me to 3.5-3.8GHZ? I dont want to run too hot.

hmm, what exactly is the difference between the XFX and the Sapphire version? just the brand name is more trusted with XFX?

EDIT- I noticed XFX has lifetime warranty. Does overclocking void the warranty like sapphire? Or can I OC it and still have the warranty intact?
