i don't think so, u have to look at the speeds for example 24x/16x/50x, but its a little different with DVD-burners. They burn DVD's and CD's at different speeds, u have to check the specs

i think CD-burners are faster
 
A good name brand drive such as Plextor or Pioneer should suffice. DVD-RW discs have to be formatted before use whereas DVD+RW do not (this is true for most burning software). Dual Layer discs aren't quite worth the $$$ yet. Make sure the drive supports overburn if you are into cramming those CDs full. DVD burners usually burn CDs slower than CD burners do. I don't care for 'media picky' drives such as Toshiba.
