I dunno about RAID, but you could look into moving to a WD Black drive. The Black drives are wicked fast.

Mmmmm VERY interesting...

All of my stuff, including the OS, is on my current 500gb drive. Can I just make an image of its current state and then just copy it to the new drive, making that my default?
 
Yep. Use something to clone your drive (Ghost, Acronis, whatever... as long as it copies the ENTIRE drive including the boot info) and the swap it out. Use your current drive to backup the new one. ;)
