My 4850's been making some unusual noises lately. Still works great, temps are fine, no artifacting, but the fan is having some issues. It's the XFX 1gb version with the full shroud and turbine like fan.
It sounds almost like it's off balance, noise isn't constant. It's just very annoying, with my headset on, the computer is just a dull noise. But now this fan noise/vibrating is getting through because it's not constant. I tried tightening some of the screws, which didn't seem to help. I have a flashlight jammed underneath the card now, which has lessened the noise, but its still perceptible.
It also goes away if the fan is set to %70+, at which point the fan is loud regardless. I leave it at %65 all the time, seemed to be a nice spot. It gets louder the slower the fan spins as well.
I'm planning on buy the CM 690 II advanced whenever its back in stock at NCIX (faster and cheaper shipping then newegg) so I looked around at some gpu coolers. Found this one http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=48358&vpn=Twinturbopro&manufacture=Arctic Cooling which looks pretty nice, rather expensive though. Any ideas on how to solve the noise problem? or other choices for coolers?
EDIT: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186016 Hmm that one's only $30, could tie wrap a fan on it pretty easily.
