I have an old 80GB HDD (WD800JD-75LSA0)

I took it out of an old computer that I no longer use. Any time that I tried to use it I would get BSOD. XP pro was installed on it so I figure that there was something wrong with it and causing problems. Either that or the drive was dead. I then used Active@ KillDisk to zero it out to see if this would allow me to use it.

My problem is that Vista wont recognize that its there anymore. The bios screen upon boot lists it, and opening up Active@ KillDisk sees it also but vista doesn't.

I was going to simply do: format drive: /q
but I cant tell it what drive to look for.

This is where I am stuck, any advice would be appreciated.

Right click on your My Computer icon and select 'Manage'
In the list on the left, browse to 'Disk Management'
You should see all the hdds in your system show up, including the 80Gb drive. Right click on it and select 'Initialise'

Just figured it out, its been a while since using computer management. I remembered how to format it from this screen. Thanks

After initialising the drive you need to partition it. Same disk management area, right click on the drive and select partition.
