Help me configure a new computer

I'm not really into computer building, although I would like to get my self a nice setup. I'm not a very big gamer, but wouldn't mind to kill some people with counter-strike! But for the rest of the time, I'm going to need the computer to compile VB.NET and PHP junk =D And some downloads and videos.

Anyway I have a budget, about $1000. I'm trying to make sure that this computer build is super cool and semi/fast.

I've been looking into Intel CPU's, such as i7 and Core 2 Quad, but I have nothing against AMD.

So here is what I would like help with, (pretty much the whole build)
Looking for some good prices on Intel/AMD CPU with a motherboard. I'm planning to use a corsair water cooler, I've heard some good reviews on the cooler.
At least 6-8GB of RAM DDR3, I guess
Video, as long as it plays counter-strike =D And supports 20" HD Monitor, preferably with HDMI/DVI output for monitor.

Hard Drive, 250/500GB
Case that has optimal cooling. I don't want shinny fan lights or anything, just black with lots of vents and fans.
DVDRW drive
500Watt power supply? Enough or more?

500W is very enough. Also you have a big budget for those needs, I do counter strike and dev work on the computer in my sig.
