I made the plunge a couple months ago and will never go back. As long as you have another large drive for storage and can leave just the OS and apps on the SSD then you are set.
If you can get an Intel, do. They are faster than Indilinx drives, but are a little more expensive.
EDIT: you also want Win7 to get the most out of an SSD. It isn't required, but with TRIM you will have a longer lasting, higher performing drive.
