Updates not installing

When I turn my computer on, it tells me that updates need to be installed. But when I try to install the updates, it says that the following updates could not be installed:

Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB973688)
Update for Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007 (KB976416)
Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB973593)
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB976884)
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB973704)

Why does it say that, and how can I resolve this issue?

Make sure you close security programs first, such as but not limited to firewalls, anti viruses and anti spyware programs.

Also close all other programs.

Also try installing them manually. If you go to micosofts website you should be able to actually download those updates. Then once they are downloaded double click the .exe to start the installation process.

Well they don't install when I turn off the computer either. It says "Click turn off to install important updates and turn off your computer." So I don't think the programs has to do with it. Perhaps I have a virus problem?

Download the individual updates like lex said, then go into safe mode and install them.
