Backlight on but no image

Hi,
I turn on my Gateway laptop (2 years old about) and the backlight turns on but the screen remains black. After around 2-3 minutes, the computer restarts and its still backlight without picture.

Sounds like a graphics card problem. possibly overheating?

I linked it up to a monitor and i see my computer starting up but then a blue screen appears. At the bottom it says something like "Dumping physical memory" or something. Then the computer restarts and there's another screen that shows a checklist with things that passed or failed but these 2 screens are only on for maybe 2 seconds.

It's a BSOD. Are you able to give us the STOP code by chance?

BSOD is right, best option is post the STOP code or the process that is failing, if all else fails, do a clean install.

That won't help if its a hardware problem (a reinstall). Hence why we need the STOP code to further diagnose the issue.
