you cant use triple channel ram with i5 if im not mistaken... also what is your budget?

you can use a tri-channel kit of ram, it just wont run in triple channel if you use all 3 sticks.

but you should be fine with just 4gigs though, plus you can save some money.
Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM - Desktop Memory

also, idk whats up with neweggs stock on 4870s. the only ones they have available right now are too expensive. you could just spend $10 more on the faster 4890,
Newegg.com - XFX HD-489X-ZSFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

my budget is around 1,400. preferably under that though

Ok so im changing the PSU, RAM, Hard drive and the Video card.

im not sure which video card to go with though.

the direct x 11 enabled card

or the one with better memory

I went with the cheaper psu and hard drive

I went with 2 ram cards giving me 4gigs

and i added a small fan to help cool the hard drive cuz i heard it heats up easily.

Both the video cards you have there are good cards. The 4890 has a combo deal with the ram you have picked out now.
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

That psu that clown said is best under $100 is no longer under $100, lol. you can save some money (if you want..) for these decent downgrades:

Newegg.com - OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ700FTY 700W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Power Supplies

and that fan you have listed there is not an HD fan, its a chipset fan. Did you want a chipset fan or an HD fan?

i didn't realize that was a chip set fan. i must of been in the wrong section. fixed now and i also changed the psu to the Corsair 650w. i thought a gaming PC took a ton of power but i guess not. oh well less money to spend.
