Hi there.

I have been lucky enough to be allowed by my university to buy a Laptop for my Use. I was a bit confused on what to buy. There is lots of stuff to see while buying a laptop, so i thought i must gather some advice. This is my requirement. BTW i m looking for a New piece not a used one.

1) Display 11 or 12 Inch.
2) Intel Processor (Core, Core2Duo) (32 Bit)
3) Memory, Minimum 2GB
4) HDD , Minimum 100GB
5) Motherboard with Serial Port, USB
6) Bluetooth and LAN
7) Maker doesnt matter, anyone will do, Sony, Toshiba, Dell, Asus etc.
8) Price Range 400$ ~ 600$

Please suggest the one that looks good to you. Links will be much appreciated. Thanks

I want to do some programming and other projects on this laptop. Most of them have an ATOM processor, is it good for programming and doing Server Client Stuff?

I'm not sure If an Atom is good for programming. I always like my Dell, 15". I bought the 2GB of ram myself, it cost too much on Dell, I could get it cheaper on Newegg.

I have an ASUS Eee 1005HA myself, and I mostly just surf the net on it.

5) Motherboard with Serial Port, USB

I need 9 pin serial for programming cash registers. All I can say is Good luck on finding a laptop with an onboard serial port. You are just going to have to do what I am doing by using a USB to Serial Port Adaptor. However finding one that works can be a pain.

I am currently RITMO USB to Serial Adaptor.
