I'm using an old hp d330 and I wanna put software on there with a flash drive and it always says drive not found cancel try again etc and it doesn't go away so I do a system restore so the message stops popping up.

Are you making sure to remove the device from Windows properly? You cant just pull it out. you should use the Removable Device tool. It will show up by the clock and just click on it and remove the device. Then it will tell you that the device is ready to be removed. Just pulling the device without doing that could cause data corruption. As Windows could be writing to the device at the time when you pull it. Which could be why when you put it in another PC it is showing up as corrupted and asking to format the drive.

I heard that you can just pull it out as long as no data is being transferred, as it isn't blinking its light. I did this with several usb drives, and I never had a problem.
