Need some advice here folks. EVGA RMA my old MB withe the bad DIMM sockets. and they offer me two choices for a replacement MB. Either MB will be for a new build in about 5 months when I have the money. Please give me your opinions on which board would be the best choice.

2) http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=113-yw-e115-tr

Looking these two boards, I'm kinda disappointed as they are both older technology.
I like choice 1 AMD , socket AM2+ at least give me quad core, not crazy about built in Geforce 8200 graphics, I would definitely purchase a better graphics card. No t sure about choice 2.
Maybe you all can give me some suggested builds along with your choices please??

Sorry for the bad links I haven't put up a link on this server before, had to figure it out, the links work now.

I have been looking at both MBs , looks like they are similar. Both have NVIDIA nForce 730i Chipset chipset, and both have built in GPU's so they dont support SLI. Whicch I'm fine with at SLI is more expensive than one good GPU.

I'm leaning towards the AMD MB as I can get a good quad CPU, AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor - Retail from NewEgg for 150$, when a comparable Intel CPU , Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor - Retail , would run me 260$.

Since I'm getting the MB free, I guess I want to spend my money on a good GPU. I still like Nvidia best, so I'm thinking XFX GX260XADJC GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - Retail for 180$ or comparable ATI would be , VisionTek 900244 Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Retail.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Most here aren't a big fan of giving advice 5 months ahead as prices will change dramatically, either up - short supply, or down. The Q9550 is faster.

Yeah, your right Septic, I guess I'm getting ahead of myself. I guess I'll get the AMD board and ask for suggestions when I'm ready to buy. What is the Q9550? GPU?

Yeah your right the Q9550 is higher up the list than the Phenom II 940, but is it 100$ worth faster??? I guess that's a matter of choice. I think I'll take the 100$ and apply that to a high end graphics card. I like to play some games so I mainly want the best graphics card I can afford.

I am a bit shocked that evga does not have a cpu compatibility list for this board.

From their website you are looking at these cpus:
Supports Phenom, Athlon 64 X2, Athlon 64, Sempron, AM2, AM2+
EVGA | Products

That would most likely put it in the 95w category. Wait for the AMD experts to chime in if I am missing something but no PII.
