I recently built my new comp:
i7 920
xms3 6gb corsair
gtx260
etc...

I have not yet installed an os. When i start it up, it runs for about 2 minutes, then shuts down. when i restart it again, it runs for even less, and each sequential restart it runs for less time.

I disconnected my HDD, fans, and cd drives, and i left these connected:
gtx260
mobo
cpu
cpu cooler
ram
psu (750W)

so it has to be a problem with these. what should i do to solve it?

Can you get into the bios? What are the Temperatures? Can you list the Make and Model of each of your Components.

You haven't listed what mobo you have.

It sounds like it's overheating. Did you useThermal Paste when you attached the heatsink to the cpu? Only use a little, about the size of a grain of rice when you remove and re-install the heatsink.

yep, did that
mobo is a asus p6t deluxe v2

i think i put a bit more than a grain, but still, why is the cpu overheating after 2 minutes of just startup bios. not even in an os
