Hi there. I am new to hardware, i wanna build a computer for my experiments, that can run Windows Xp at least. AS i cant afford expensive PC for my Electrical experiments, so i decided to make one for myself by collecting the standalone parts from USED SHOPS.

First thing in making computers is Motherboard, so i was thinking what to look for? Is there any thing i need to look into old Motherboards (ofcourse they will be cheap and easily available on USED SHOPS) that can run Windows Xp?

Some guidelines on buying the Motherboard please?

Any board from socket 478 (Intel) or socket A (AMD) can run XP. You have to make sure that the motherboard you choose matches the CPU you choose, as in the same socket type because they do not mix and match.

Most motherboards will have onboard ethernet, USB, and sound. Many may have onboard graphics as well.

Post up whatever you find and we will try to help you along.

Thank you for your instant reply.

by CPU you mean Processor?? And how to check which Processor will match which motherboard?

cpu = central proccesing unit

So yes he meant processor.

You can look up comaptable cpus with any motherboard at the support website for the manufacturer of said mb.

No i cant get it cheaper than that.

BTW can you please tell me the max. price for the following used components

Gigabyte socket 775 Motherboard (Any type)
MSI socket 775 Motherboard (any type)
CPU 3.0GHZ minimum
DDR RAM
harddisk SATA may be if motherboard supports that

Thanks in advance
