hello, i have a hp p6230y computer and i want to upgrade to a new video card. i was wondering which video card i should go with - ati radeon or the nvidia brand and also, if i do get a new video card would i have to change the PSU for the computer?

whats your budget?

depending on which card you get though, if youre gonna go with any mid-level or higher gfx card, youre most likely gonna need to upgrade that too.

Pavilion p6230y

300W PSU, one PCI-E x16 slot

Phenom II X4-810 (D) 2.6 GHz (95W)
AMD 785G / ATI Radeon HD 4200
Foxconn H-RS780-uATX (Aloe-GL8E)
8 GB (4 x 2GB) RAM Installed, max 16GB (4 x 4GB)
750 GB SATA 3G

That's actually pretty good for a pre-built, mate.

As muffin said, what's your budget? Odds are any decent GFX card will require a new PSU, but we'll see what we can squeeze out of what you can spend. More than likely we will recommend a ATI card as they give you the most for the least.

I also have an HP Pavilion P6230y and am interested in upgrading the video card. I recently upgraded my power supply to an Ultra X4 500 watt modular. As for the money I am willing to spend on a video card. I don't want to go much over $100 if possible. Thanks in advance for any help, this is my first time upgrading a video card.
