CPU/Mobo Upgrade, which?

I plan on upgrading my work computer from a 2.8ghz p4 w/ 512cache and an asus board to a 3.2+ p4 and an ABIT board for OC'ing.

From looking at benchmarks, there seem to be some subtleties to chip performance due to factors that I cannot detect. Here's what I was figuring for an upgrade:

CPU- Intel Pentium 4/ 3.4E GHz 800MHz FSB, 1M L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology - OEM ($309)

I would think that the first chip is a good amount faster since it has the same clock and twice the cache. However, the 1mb is a Prescott and the 512 is a Northwood. I hear Prescotts aren't good to overclock? Which CPU do you think I could get the best performance out of after OC'ing with an abit board? Thanks!

Northwood is the best so far, still if you'll see, northwoods are expensive than prescotts on same clock, besides prescots are coming with more cache (which is a major factor in CPU pricing), why dont you try AMD this time?

they both good for ocing.. but IF, and only IF, try to find an ic7-maxIII. they are discontinued, but still able to find them here and there. Its a crasy board. But u can also go to amd, but thats a whole other story. a 3500 939 90 nm, abit av8 3rd eye. 3500 is like 290-300 now. and mobo is 130

Well its mainly a video editing rig, so I would figure one of the Intels would be fastest. Or would one of the AMD's (ie: 3500) be faster?

the 3500+ os prolly the best overall chip. is has faster cycles per minute, and is just an amazing chip. Plus when windows 64 bit comes out, itl be even butter, the cpu will work at its full potential! i personally am getting a 3500 939 90 nm soon.

From all the talk I've ever seen around here I've been lead to believe that the Intel, in part due to the HT, would be faster for stuff like video editing.

Assuming all other components equal, which of these two setups would be fastest for video editing??????

Video Editing I'd go with the Intel.

Probable a bit better for everyday apps as well.
