I am going to get my son a 24" LCD monitor for his PC Gaming.

1920x1200 or 1920 x 1080

Will 1920x 1080 look stretched or anything?

What resolution would look best?

nothing will looked 'stretched.' In the game, you select the resolution you want to display, 1920x1200 or 1920x1080, depending what monitor you pick and the game will draw to that.
1920x1200 is a 16:10 ratio, while 1920x1080 is a 16:9 ratio screen (same as and hdtv).

If the monitor will be mostly used for games, id go with the 1920x1200 monitor. If he will be watching alot of movies or hd video on the monitor, the 1920x1080 may be better.

I use a samsung 24" at 1920x1200.. which I believe is the typical aspect ratio for PC games.. 1920x1080 is 1080P, the aspect ratio for TV's and Console Games... to me, the more pixels the better, so 1920x1200 it is. I guess otherwise it is personal preference, since I have never played a PC game on a 1080P monitor, but assume it runs fine at that res. too given its popularity.

Take a look at the Samsung T240, Whirl. It's one h*** of a monitor. Great colour and clarity and it's 1920 x 1200.

I'd go with 1920x1080 myself, I don't so much like 16:10 ratios

I'd suggest taking a quick trip down to your local computer shop, compare what they look like for yourself.

I think it's mostly personal preference..... almost all games support both resolutions nowadays

19x12 is a bit taller than 1080, and I like more virtual real estate

so I prefer 19x12

Thanks guys.....I think I will try to find a deal on a 1900x1200.

I would like to get one for around $200....that will be tough...but, I will be on the look out!

I've never seen that resolution before. I would advise against getting that, its an inch smaller, and at this size a monitor, 1920x1200 is plenty for resolution density.

Edit: saw your comment about staying ~$200, not sure you can do that with a 24".
If you step down to 23" you can do it, looks like most of those monitors are 16:9 1920x1080 resolution which is fine. I still dont like the 2048 x 1152 monitor you posted.

I was kind of thinking that...it is just cheaper than the 1920x1200

Newegg has very few 1920x1200 monitors....most are 1920x1080

The 1900x1200 seem to run about $50 more

There is one Gateway monitor that has a 1920x1200 at only $189....but it has bad reviews.
