My friend currently has an ASROCK M266A motherboard with a p4 1.8 chip.

I was wondering if that same chip will be compatible with this motherboard ....Asus P4R800-V Deluxe.

Plus if it is compatible, would it be worth the upgrade. He just has the on-board video card and have about 256mb of ram with 32mb allocated to the video-card.

I'm thinking that if he could upgrade, he'll also need to get some more ram in order to use the 128mb video and have a decent amount of ram for other applications.

Lastly, would it just be better to get a seperate 9200 video card and keep the current motherboard.

He wants to use it to play sports game like nhl 2005, or madden etc.

if its on Brookdale chip, then it wont, else it will definately.

because both earlier versions, and current version have different pin numbers. and 1.8 came in both versions.

it all depends how much money he wants to spend. those two games are not too high end graphic dependent so personally i would suggest with just getting that particular vid card (don't spend more than $60-75) and get another 256 RAM. This would definetly keep cost down. And yes both boards are compatible with the p4 1.8 processor which is socket 478
