Back in '06 i came here and got some good advice to help build my first PC.

Now i'm afraid its **** old.

19" Monitor
Hiper 580 Watt type-R
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San diego
2GB Value Corsair
DFI UT Ultra-D Lanparty 939

Old GFX card died so i went out impatiently a couple of months ago and bought a ATI 4870.

But i believe that GFX is being bottlenecked to the ground.

So i need to get a new Mobo,Ram,CPU.

It would need to be future proof as i intend to get Windows 7.(using xp home)

Also i'm located in the UK.

Ive got about £715 to spend although i'm not keen to spend most of it. If it can be justified, maybe i could get a DDR2 setup with a core2Duo and OC it up.

How about these? Total is £580 including shipping.
CPU Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz Socket 1366 D0 stepping 8MB Cache OEM Processor - Ebuyer

Mobo Asus P6TD Deluxe X58 Socket 1366 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard - Ebuyer

RAM Kingston 6GB (3x2GB) 1600MHz/PC3-12800 HyperX XMP Memory Kit CL8(8-8-8-24) - Ebuyer

HS EXDISPLAY Scythe Ninja II with 120mm fan Heatpipe Socket 478, 775, 939, 940, AM2 Processor Cooler - Ebuyer

Well within your budget and even before OCing will be much better than an OCd core 2 setup. Also future-proof for the i9 six-cores coming out next year. And it leaves you room in the budget to get W7.

I'm afraid thats way more than i'd like to spend. Looks nice though.

I'm a tramp so i would only be looking to spend no more than £350, plus i can get Windows 7 for £30 through the student offer.
