RAM Question

So I have this laptop: Toshiba Canada - mobile computing - notebooks - satellite notebooks - Satellite L300D

It has 2GB of RAM and it's running Vista 32 bit. My question is should I get more RAM for it or will I have to run a 64 bit operating system to benefit from it?

Also, if I get more RAM, say 4GB then downgrade to XP or upgrade to Windows 7 will that speed up the laptop? What is the most beneficial combination of RAM/operating system.

you could upgrade to 4gigs of ram, but with a 32-bit OS, it would only recognize around ~3.5gigs of ram.

for the OS, xp is less of a resource hog than vista so it should run smoother, but it is nearly 8 years old now (not worth it now IMO). i would just take the step into w7 now. i think youll find that itll run a little smoother than vista, and overall, just like it better.
