comp might be overheating?

not sure what to do here, my computer starts up shows the windows screen then shuts off, wont even attempt to start up until it's been off for a long time, what should i do?

Hard to say for certain. Sounds like the Power Supply might be overheating. You should clean out the inside of the PC to start with. Using compressed air clean out nook and cranny.

ok so i cleaned the dust out, was tons, it worked fine for a long time never messed up, then i shut it down and got on later and it did it again expect this time it turned on and off on and off on and off real fast and wouldn't turn on.

My 1st guess would be the power supply has died.

What is the make and model# of your PC? If it's a custom built what are the basic specifications?

Without knowing exactly what you have I'll say this will probably work.

its an old HP prebuilt piece of **** lol. pentium 4 2.8ghz. i have an extra PS laying around ill see if its compatible.
