ok so to me all the processors look to have around 2.8ghz apart from the very good ones could someone tell me what is the best thing to look at when buying a processor?

Best way?

Honestly the benchmarks are the best way, or just know the hierarchy of the best to worst processors at this time. Tell me which one's you are planning on looking at and I'll tell you which are the best (and bang for the buck too).

well im looking at core 2 duo and core 2 quad but some are cheap and some more expensive, i am looking for one that will be good for gaming and games programming.

well the cheaper ones really (under £80) but will i have to pay alot more for gaming / games programming? also i hant built a pc before so im looking for cheap options incase i break anything.

Don't worry about breaking anything, just don't force anything and you won't kill your build.

For that price, I think the Core i5's and Core i7's could fit into your budget. If I'm converting to Euro's in my head correctly.
