Possible sound card problem

alright, my niece was on my computer recently and when i got back on it i noticed my sound no longer works. Neither my speakers or headset can get any sound. I checked out everything in my control panel, and it says everything is working properly. my sound is not muted and everything is turned to max. Is there something I'm missing here? any help would be greatly appreciated, thanx in advance.

Did you check to make sure the sound card is still listed in the device manager?

To do this Right click on My Computer
Click on Properties
Click the Hardware tab
Then Click Device Manager
It should be listed under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers
