When I was done installing my new Q9650, the computer started on okay, everything turned on... except for my monitor which stayed off... I tried to turn it on, but kept getting no signal!! I checked HP for a bios update but there wasn't any. Not sure what to do, help me!

By the way, when I put my old processor an E6400 2.13 GHz C2D.... the monitor turned on just okay.

specs:

VISTA 32BIT
Intel 2.13 GHz C2D
4GB RAM
nVidia 9800GX2
HP model m7684n

Have you tried putting your old cpu back in?

Does your board have onboard as well as a video card? If so have you tried onboard in case your bios got reset?

are you sure your motherboard supports that cpu (45nm vs 65nm)?

what model of HP do you have?

Edit: Nice you answered most of my questions while I was posting. Hold on.

I'm not too sure what you're talking about, what is "onboard"?

I have no idea, it's a stock mobo bought in Oct 2006.

Well this is your motherboard.
Motherboard Specifications, P5BW-LA (Basswood) HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7684n Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Here are the cpus that it supports:
* Socket: 775
* Supports the following processors:
o Intel Core Duo E6x00 with Dual Core technology (Conroe core)
o Pentium D 9x0 series Dual Core (Presler)
o Pentium D 8xx series (Smithfield)
o Pentium 4 6x1 series (Cedar Mill core)
o Pentium 4 6xx (Prescott core)
o Pentium 4 5xx (Prescott core)
o Pentium 4 LGA-775 HT (Prescott core)

The best it supports are the e6x00 (conroe 65nm)

The Q9650 is a Yorkfield 45nm and not supported by that board.

Sorry.

well, do you have any recommendations to which mobo I should upgrade to? Something cheap and efficient preferably.
