monitor res probelms

hey guys i have just recently fixed a pc just a simple re-install of windows

the problem is its gone from a 17" to a 15" screen and i cant seem to get the res back to normal, seems to cut off the top of programs ect

just wondering if you guys know a fix, i have already tryed the desktop propties (using windows xp pro)

In Display properties does it tell you the size it thinks the screen is (15 or 17)?

If you go into device manager do you have any warnings?

Display drivers installed I assume.

Some older monitors you need to access the menu on the monitor itself and resize the screen there. You can adjust height, width, stretch etc.
