Any how this is my dream rig that im saving up for, 1,300 so far>.< it's going to take me a while since im saving up for a used 2003 ford explorer =[

Well, what do you need the computer for?
I would buy the i7 920, it has great overclock power, and save the money to buy a better graphics, HD5870, or even crossfire two of them.
Do you really need 12GB of RAM? Depending on what you're using the computer for, but for most people 6GB is more than enough.

Agreed. The 975 is really only worth it if you plan to put it under some Ln2 for some serious overclocking.

What is the general purpose of this computer?

12gb of ram is nice for running a lot of vm's or very ram intensive programs like CS4 etc.

At the moment i use CS4, Song Vegas, Adobe After Affects, and adobe in design. So the ram will help run smooth/render. Also how much better is the HD5870 then thet getforrce GTX 275? thanks. Also will some one give me some insights which platform i should use? I'm Thinking windows 7.

Also, Gaming and business. I'm studing graphics design etc atm, and i use my computer i have(only 4 gb of ram intel core 2 duo) and it's not cuttng it. Also i wouldn't overlock because it's to much hassle, and my games play well now so on the extreme i'm assuming they would play a lot better with out overlocking.

Win 7 64bit for sure.

the 5870 is currently the best single card on the market at the moment. If you are gaming it will be a great card. If you are just using cs4 etc. it would not make a difference.

With the programs you are using start with 12gb and see if you need more. It will only be cheaper later.

Thanks, i may get a cheaper(not much some other i7) processor, and get 24 gbs of ram(it says the motherboard can hold it) I guess ram would help me more rendering etc, then a better processor would. Plus looking at the Specs the i7 975 extreme isn't much better then some other i7's i was looking at.

+ 2

Radeon 5870 - The 5870 is more powerful than two GTX 275's
Core i7-920 - They are nearly the same even w/o overclock
6GB DDR3 - I doubt you would use over 6GB. That would be insane.

I use programs like Softimage and Blender all the time and I would see no benefit from more than 6gb. Next time your doing some rendering bring up the task manager and look at how much RAM your actually using.

You would benefit much more if you got a dual CPU motherboard and had 16 threads with 8 cores going at the same time. Than wasting your money on 12gb or 24gb of ram.
