I have an old Q6600 sitting in my LANing PC and I have decided to put it in my main desktop.

It's been some while since I installed a CPU, so just to be safe I made this topic. What I plan on doing is:

Shutting down.

Removing E6850, installing Q660.

Reboot.

Good to go.

Do I need to configure anything in the BIOS and is this fine?

You shouldn't. I'm sure the E6850 and the Q6600 operate at the same FSB, right?

I just looked it up. the E6850 runs at 1333 while the Q660 runs at 1066. Make any changes in the BIOS if you have to about this.

Ok, thanks for looking it up.

Thing is I'm not too sure as to what I need to change in the BIOS. If it helps, I have a Gigabyte P35-S3 MB.

I think it should just work. If ti doesn't you can always switch them back out and check the settings

they both require at least the F4 bios version to operate so you should be just fine.

Make sure you have some thermal paste to reapply to your heatsink after you clean the old stuff off.
