Low Profile Video Card Won't Fit!!!

Hi. I just got an nvidia 8400GS low profile because my 9800 GX2 died. I ordered it so I could test to make sure the motherboard just isn't broken before buying a new video card. The only problem is, I got a low profile version and the tab on the top of the backplate prevents the card from fitting through the back of the computer. My question is, could I just snip the tab off? I am only using it as a test card, so I don't even need to put the computer right side up. I'm just worried that snipping off the tab will damage the video card in some way. I would like to test out my computer ASAP so please respond! Thank You.
