Hey, Ive had a 2.40 GHZ Q6600 for a year now and im thinking i should go to a Q9400 2.66 GHz

Do you guys think i should go for it or it might be a waste?

I would overclock the 6600 and save your cash for a new system later.

even at stock the 6600 is a real nice cpu.

I would say stick with what you've got. I've got a Q6600 as well and it's a very capable CPU, I don't see any reason to throw more money into a new processor. LIke Hefe said, you can OC it if you want, I think you can get some pretty nice speeds out of it.

Well, will your mobo suport 45nm quads?

The earlier G0 q6600s could overcloc like champs, newer ones can do 3.0Ghz.. so id stay will the 6600 and just get an i whatever in the next update.

Is it in a pre-built PC (Dell, HP, whatever), or is it in a custom build?

^^that's my motherboard.

People say if you over clock your computer gets more hotter and Ive only got 3 fans on my computer is that enough and if i over clock to 2.66. will it wear out my computer or anything coz all i wanna go to is 2.66 that's all.

For the record I have a q6600:
There is really no reason for you to upgrade.
After you read the articles trotter posted you should be able to OC. Even though you only have 3 fans on your case, you should be able to get to 2.66 (probably on stock voltages). Just monitor your temps, but first see how far you can get on stock voltages.
